5th UrbanArt Biennale® 2019 unlimited
(tratto dal sito ufficiale)
It is difficult to think of any other art movement that is as multifaceted as urban art, the art of the twenty-first century. The term “urban art” refers to abstract works of art rooted in graffiti writing and ranging from the “Walls of Freedom” of the Egyptian Revolution to Shepard Fairey’s “Change” campaign for Barack Obama. From around the turn of the millennium, urban art began to evolve into a movement that blends with the fabric of the city while making a growing impact on the art market. Urban art continues to attract global media interest, and as a result, it is a movement whose history, meaning and potential continue to unfold across national borders and cultural differences.
Every two years, the Völklinger Hütte World Heritage Site’s UrbanArt Biennale® showcases the most recent developments and trends in international urban art. It is the largest urban art project in the world. More than 400,000 people have visited the biennale since it was first held in 2011, and nearly 300 renowned urban artists, including Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Futura, have exhibited their work at Völklinger Hütte. The Fifth UrbanArt Biennale® 2019 Unlimited presents 100 artists | 120 works | 20 countries | 4 continents across 100,000 square metres of exhibition space. In so doing, it provides an up-to-date overview of the global urban art scene.
