MARCO GRASSI PHO
(Milan, 1976)
Marco Grassi Pho was born in Milan in 1976. In the late 1980s, he discovered the art of Writing on the walls of Paris, his mother’s birthplace. Influenced by it, he joined the Milanese crew 16K and became one of the main protagonists of the Italian scene. After finishing art high school, he attended Luciano Fabro’s painting course at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, graduating in 2001. During those years, he pursued a studio painting path; he worked on recovered materials, reassembled them, and fused informal painting aesthetics with stylistic elements of writing. His mark is characterized by strong gesturality and asserts itself on surfaces with the same energy and force as tags on Milano’s walls. His first solo exhibition was in 2005; followed by participations in Milan at Street Art Sweet Art at PAC and Junkbuilding at the Triennale. He exhibited in London, Paris, Vienna, and Berlin. In 2013, he formed the collective Le Grand Verre and explored analog photography techniques. Some of his recent works are outdoor, focusing on landscape and natural elements composing it.
