CANEMORTO

It is not a collective, it is not a social cooperative… but a trio of young artists working as a single entity. They define themselves as “one and three” and are one of the most interesting partnerships in Italian contemporary art. They met on the benches of a Brianza art high school in 2007 and refined a distinctive aesthetic code in the alternation between graffiti, mural painting and art academy, always working six hands. The art of CANEMORTO is both action and concept; they are spontaneous, authentic, eclectic, vibrant, instinctive, irreverent, courageous, rough, sarcastic and ironic; they work with their faces covered, they are faithful to the myth of the Txakurra (an evil deity in the shape of a dead dog) and speak na hermetic language , the canemortish. Their anti-aesthetics- which contrasts with the myth of the superficial and the beauty of our time - is inspired by art brut, comics, tattoos and is imbued with metropolitan underground codes and cultured references to the history of art.
CANEMORTO write, paint outdoor and indoor, sing, sculpt, tatoo, engrave and illustrate. They move with agility from large murals to packaging, from comics to videos with one foot inside the art system and the other well anchored in the outdoor world. The trio has exhibited in various solo show including Zocur Footwear ( Litografia Bulla, Roma), Golden Age (Studiocromie, Grottaglie), Yellow Carlo on a background of three dogs (Altrove Gallery, Catanzaro) and Toys (Viafarini, Milano); they have participated in group exhibitions, performances and video projections in galleries, museums and institutions in Italy and abroad. CANEMORTO were recently invited to exhibit at the Center Culturel Jean-Cocteau in Paris and at TAM museum in Matera, they feature the November 2022 issue of Rolling Stones and appear with one of their canvases in the February 2023 issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
