(Jesi, Italy, 1984)
Giorgio Bartocci is a versatile artist, active for over twenty years as a writer, muralist, and designer. He studied goldsmithing at art high school, graduated from the I.S.I.A. of Urbino, and grew up surrounded by the scents of colors and paper in his father’s studio—his father was a painter, engraver, and graphic designer. At the age of 12, he began painting with spray cans on trains and walls in his city, choosing writing and the street as a privileged space for personal artistic experimentation that still fuels his work today.
Recognized in the international writing scene, he quickly engaged with large-scale surfaces; he knows how to create dialogue between architecture and painting and he is fascinated by movement, which he represents through mysterious silhouettes, elongated organic shapes, and fluid forms that evoke primordial elements. His investigation is multifaceted, ranging from collage to painting, product design to large walls, installations, and sculptures, and he is sensitive to the influence that primitive art had on contemporary artistic avant-gardes.
Bartocci explores the environment, incorporating it into his aesthetics as if it were a pattern, integrating form and color in light games that come alive on the surfaces of his works. His painting style is distinctive, instinctive, expressive, minimalist, and abstract.
He lives and works in Milan.
