Gonzalo Borondo
(Valladolid, 1989)
is a multimedia visual artist and one of the most brilliant of his generation. He grew up in Segovia and studied in Madrid, where he deepened his knowledge of figurative painting techniques. Since 2003, he has been involved in the underground art scene and has stood out for the originality of his murals, often created in unauthorized spaces—powerful inspirations that spark a dialogue between the subject represented and the environment in which it is placed. In 2011, he moved to Rome, where he attended the Academy of Fine Arts and formed a strong connection with the city, which would be the first to recognize him as a major figure on the international urban public art scene. Borondo’s pictorial poetics are expressionist, intimate, and humanist: he explores emotions, the fragility of psyche, moods, restlessness, and inner consciousness, all infused with spirituality and a deep connection to nature. In his artistic vision, the physical and psychological context are constantly interwoven, characterized by a continuous experimentation with techniques, the use of unconventional materials, and a distinctive, aware, and energetic style that transforms art into an immersive experience. Borondo has created dozens of murals in major world capitals, held numerous solo exhibitions, and has been invited to exhibit his work in many museums and institutions. His most recent projects include the installation at the Urban Nation Contemporary Art Museum (Berlin, 2016), the intervention in the Chartrons Temple acquired by CAPC (Bordeaux, 2019), the Non plus ultra installation at the MACRO (Rome, 2019), and his solo exhibition at the Esteban Vicente Museum of Contemporary Art (Segovia, 2021). He was awarded the Arte Laguna Prize in Venice in 2018 and the Golden Street Art Award in France in 2020. He currently lives and works in Segovia.
